Description Askrigg is a charming and very popular Upper Wensleydale village which if for nothing else will achieve immortality for being portrayed in the TV Vet Series as James Herriots fictional village of Darrowby. The woodturner (now retired) is a friendly former local schoolmaster who had turned a useful hobby into an interesting part time occupation.
Regular watchers of the series will quickly spot the house in Askrigg that was used as the surgery for the veterinary practice: as you might expect it has been renamed "Skeldale House". He lives with his wife in "Grenada", a house dating from 1782 and bearing the unusual Caribbean name...
